Let's Install Your Fanny Bidet
How to install your Fanny
You seem like the type who has their sh*t together. So, putting your Fanny together should be a breeze. Let’s go, team.
First things first, what’s your toilet type?
Fanny is compatible with 99% of toilet types. If you’re sitting on a standard “two-piece” with a bowl and separate tank, and a flexible steel hose that connects the two, then you’ll be saddled up in no time.
If you have a modern fancy toilet that’s skirted (which means the external tank connection is hidden inside the toilet) then good for you. But it does mean you’ll need to pick up an extra brass adapter before you can fannify your toilet.
Next, how’s your water hooked up?
Got a flexible water connection hose? Then you’re all set. But if it’s a rigid pipe that’s connecting the mains water to your toilet, then you’re gonna need a flexible steel hose that measures ⅜” x ⅞”. You can pick one up from your local hardware store, or just order our stainless steel flexible hose and we’ll send it directly to your door.
So far so good. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…
You made it through the preliminary round, but there are still a few things you need to know before getting stuck into your installation—or there’s a chance you could end up damaging your property and (more importantly) your pride.
- Always turn the mains water off before installing your Fanny. The same goes for any maintenance you might do in the future.
- Be careful when touching your hot water valve. These little guys can get pretty hot.
- Tighten everything up nice n’ tight—but not so tight that you cause damage to your plumbing parts.
- Be sure to check for leaks before taking your Fanny for it’s first ride. We’ll tell you how to do this later.
Ready? Let’s do this.
1. Turn off the water supply
Once you’ve shut your water off at the mains, turn it off at the valve beside your toilet. A couple of twists in the clockwise direction should do it.
2. Empty your toilet tank
Press the flush down until your water tank is just about empty. If there’s a wee-wee amount of water left, that’s all good.
3. Take your toilet seat off
Most seats are attached by just a couple of screws. Flip up the screw caps using a flathead screwdriver, then do a little loosey-lefty on them until you’re able to lift your toilet seat off your toilet. If you’ve got one of those quick-release seats, then just raise both parts of the seat up, press the release button, then lift off.
4. Connecting to cool water
a) Twist off your flexible hose
Towels at the ready! It’s time to twist off your flexible hose from your toilet tank. There shouldn’t be too much to mop up—just whatever’s left over in the hose.
b) Hook up Fanny’s flexible hose
Screw the steel flexible hose that was included in your box to the mega adapter’s side connection. Then, screw your toilet’s existing flexible hose to the bottom of the mega adapter. The top of the mega adapter then gets screwed into your toilet tank.
c) Finish up with your cool water connection
Time to connect the flexible steel hose from the mega adapter to the water port on your Fanny. Be sure to line up the threads correctly—cross-threading is the no.1 culprit for causing leaks.
5. Connecting to hot water (Fanny Hotshot only. So you can skip this is you have an original Fanny)
a) Disconnect your sink’s supply valve
Twist the flexible hose until it disconnects from your sink's water supply. Then, fasten your mini adapter directly onto your sink’s supply valve.
b) Reconnect your flexible hose
Reattach your flexible hose to the top of the mini adapter. Turn it clockwise with your hand to tighten her up, then use a wrench so it’s nice and secure.
c) Finish up with your warm water connection
Take the plastic tubing that’s connected to your mini adapter and push it firmly into the adapter underneath the Fanny console. And voilà—you should now have both the cool water and warm water supplies hooked up to your Fanny.
6. Intro Fanny to your toilet
Line up the bidet attachment on top of your toilet bowl, adjusting your flanges so they line up with the holes, and making sure Fanny’s nozzle sits in the center. Leave a little space between the rim of your toilet bowl and the nozzle so you can adjust your angle.
7. Secure your saddle
Make sure she’s secure by threading your toilet seat bolts through the adjustable flanges and your toilet’s mounting holes, then screw them up ‘til they’re nice n’ tight. If you’ve got a quick-release toilet seat, then place your mounts on top of the seat then tighten through the mounting holes.
8. Look for leaks
Turn your water valve on and off to check for any leaks. If you are leaking, here’s what to do:
- Check your rubber gasket is in the right place in your adapter
- Check those pesky threads to make sure there’s no cross-threading
- Check all your connection are tight (but not too tight, remember)
9. Go Flush Yourself™
Sit your butt down, turn that nozzle (slowly), and test out the pressure and angles. Then, congratulate yourself on becoming a bidet bigshot.
Time to do some troubleshootin'
An easy fix here, friend. Most bolts are long enough to be compatible with Fanny, but if you find yourself in that (special) minority, simply head on down to your local hardware store and pick up some bolts that are half an inch longer.
Sounds like there could be some calcification there. Just keep twistin’ back and forth until she loosens up.
It’s usually pretty easy to find the culprit. First, check your rubber gasket is in the right place in your adapter. Then, check those pesky threads to make sure there’s no cross-threading going on. And finally, check all your connections again to see if they’re nice n’ tight. Still leaking after all that? Get in touch with us at help@fanny.coand we’ll see if we can help.
It might take a little time for your water to turn warm. Give your sink a little time to adjust for that first use—it will get warm before you know it.
It probably has a locking clip. All you have to do is pop the plastic locking clip off of the push-to-connect collar and then push the collar up towards the console, while pulling the
tube out in the opposite direction.
